Life at Pollard Institute
Melbourne, one of the world's most liveable cities and the restaurant capital of Australia, is situated on beautiful Port Phillip Bay and is the home of the world famous Melbourne Cricket Ground (The MCG). The City has a passion for food and wine and has a world significant fashion industry and arts scene.
Dining and Shopping:
Pollard Institute at Essendon Fields is ideally situated to make the most of many Melbourne past-times; Jump on the tram for a short ride to Keilor Road and enjoy this famous restaurant district, or take the tram a few minutes the other way for a world of shopping at Airport West.
Sport and Fitness:
Melbourne is the sporting capital of Australia and hosts many great events such as the Tennis Australian Open in January, the F1 Grand Prix in March, and the AFL Grand Final in September.
There are many swimming and gym facilities located around Melbourne including one at Essendon Fields. If you are interested in joining the Essendon Fields Gym, please see Client Services. We also have mates-rates at Fitness First Gyms around the city.
Living Costs:
Students are responsible for their own living costs. The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) suggest that, depending on your lifestyle, the cost of living in Melbourne is around AU$1,000 per month. Students must finance these costs in addition to tuition fees and health insurance cover. Overseas Student Health Cover Premiums are around AU$300 per year for a single student.
Overseas students intending to enrol in a course are advised that any school-aged dependants accompanying them to Australia will be required to pay full fees if they are enrolled in either a government or non-government school.
Childcare:
POLLARD INSTITUTE is situated right next door to Koala Club Childcare. A 4.5 green star building, with state of the art facilities, Koala club child care centre caters for all children from 6 weeks old – 6 years old, full time and part time, the centre is open from 6:30am - 6.30pm. Eight individual rooms enable the centre to provide children with a high level of care, stimulation and educational opportunities for their age group. The centre has separate outdoor play areas for children under 3 and children over 3 and a nursery for children up to 12 months of age. Koala Club is a separate business that charges for its services.
Public Transport:
Students who wish to drive to the College will find that parking is easy and convenient. For those who prefer public transport, POLLARD INSTITUTE is located on English Street, Essendon Fields. Just a minutes walk from the Airport Tram Stop. The Melbourne Public Transport Corporation has created a pamphlet to help you with fares and other public transport information.
